How to transfer a domain name from Godaddy to Namecheap
I’m in the process of transferring a few domains from Godaddy.com to the acclaimed Namecheap.com registrar. Why? Because it’s cheaper, does not send me newsletters and doesn’t waste money in stupid ads.
Whatever your reason, you need a code (EPP, or Extensible Provisioning Protocol) to actually transfer a domain from one registrar to another, and Godaddy does its best to make it hard for you to get it (it also uses it a different name for it: “authorization code”).
Anyway it’s 2011, and there are very few things that you cannot do with a simple search on Google (or my favorite search engine these days, Twitter search).
So here’s what you have to do:
- Go to godaddy.com
- login to your account
- click on “Domain Manager” and select the domain you want to transfer
- under “Domain Information” (the section on the left) you’ll find “Authorization Code“. Click on “Send by email”. That’s it (should look something like this).
I thought this might be useful.
